Nature has always spoken to me in a language deeper than words.
I don’t just like being in nature.
I feel nourished by it.
Changed by it.
Reminded by it.
Every element teaches me something.
After a long and cold winter in the Austrian Alps, I finally returned to my beloved Greece during my favourite season of the year: Spring.
Have you ever experienced Greece in Spring?
Most people know Greece for the stunning sea, the turquoise waters, the beaches, and the islands scattered like jewels across the Mediterranean.
And yes, of course they are beautiful. Magical even.
But the mountains… ahhh.
Many people don’t realise that Greece is also a land of mountains.
Wild mountains covered with forests, rivers, waterfalls, crystal springs, herbs, birdsong… and, if you ask me, fairies too.
In Spring, Greece wears her most colourful and fragrant dress.
Everywhere I look is blooming.
The earth becomes lush and green again.
Wild herbs grow freely on the mountainsides.
Fresh water gushes endlessly from springs hidden between rocks and trees, so pure and delicious that it becomes your favourite drink without even trying.
And every year, almost immediately, I notice my body changing here.
My breathing slows down.
It deepens naturally.
My shoulders soften.
When I stand among giant mountains, my whole posture changes without effort.
My chest opens.
My spine lengthens.
It feels as if the body instinctively imitates what it sees around it.
Strong.
Open.
Grounded.
Alive.
And when the breath slows down, something else softens too.
The nervous system begins to relax.
The mind becomes quieter.
Life suddenly feels clearer, brighter, strangely familiar again.
I notice this especially near rivers.
Have you ever noticed how differently you feel beside flowing water?
To me, the river feels like a constant cleansing.
As if the flowing water gently carries away all the unnecessary noise I have been holding inside.
The worries.
The tension.
The endless thoughts.
Only fifteen minutes beside a river can completely change the way I feel in my body.
My shoulders drop.
My jaw softens.
My breathing changes.
And suddenly, I remember that peace is not something we must force. Sometimes it is simply something we remember through nature.
And, the older I grow, the more I realise that nature has never asked me to become someone else.
The mountains do not try to impress.
The rivers do not apologise for flowing slowly or wildly.
The flowers bloom in their own season without comparison.
The trees do not force themselves to be anything other than what they are.
And somehow, every time I spend time in nature, my body remembers this too.
It remembers that softness is not weakness.
That rest is not laziness.
That beauty exists naturally when nothing is trying too hard.
Maybe this is why I feel so drawn to move, dance, breathe, and simply be outdoors.
Not to escape life,
but to return to it more fully.
To listen again.
To feel again.
To reconnect with something honest inside myself.
And perhaps this is the real magic nature offers us.
Not distraction.
Not performance.
Not perfection.
But remembrance.
A quiet return to who we already are.
~
I would genuinely love to hear from you.
Has nature ever changed the way you feel in your body?
Is there a place in nature where you feel most like yourself?
Maybe it’s the sea.
A forest.
A mountain.
A river.
A garden.
A place from childhood you still carry inside you.
And when was the last time you truly slowed down enough to listen?
